Last week, we looked at the best performing ETFs of 2022, which had a common theme: oil & gas related.
On the flip side, here are the worst-performing ETFs today (excluding leveraged ETFs).
🥉 Third place: The Breakwave Dry Bulk Shipping ETF (NYSE:BDRY) — down 68% this year.
🥈 Second place: The Viridi Bitcoin Miners ETF (NYSE:RIGZ) — down 69% this year.
🥇 First place: The VanEck Russia ETF and Franklin FTSE Russia ETF — down 79% and 70% this year, respectively. But both have stopped trading since March after the invasion.
Shipping and crypto assets performed strongly in 2021. Crypto benefited from the last leg of the bull market, and shipping rates skyrocketed in 2020 and 2021.
But both began collapsing last October. Supply chains slowly began to ease, and recession concerns sent shipping rates back to normalized levels.
